FAQ
What is a board certified surgeon?
A board certified surgeon is a veterinarian who has undergone four additional years of training in the area of surgery. They complete strict qualification procedures and examinations by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons to earn their certification and become Diplomates of ACVS. Diplomate status can be awarded to other areas within the veterinary field such as neurology and internal medicine.
When do I first contact VSC?
Your first contact with VSC will be to schedule an appointment at one of our 5 locations. Your veterinarian will call us or fax us a completed referral form regarding your pet and why you are coming to see us.
Should I prepare my pet in a special way when I visit VSC?
Yes. Please do not feed your pet the morning of your appointment, in the event that your pet needs sedation for a complete exam, radiographs, or because surgery may follow that same afternoon. Your pet should be controlled on a leash or inside a carrier. If you have any questions about medications or special dietary needs, please call the facility you will be going to for your consultation.
What should I bring with me for my initial consult?
You will need your pet and: a copy of the radiographs, patient history, all recent blood work reports, and previous biopsy reports, as applicable.
How is my pet’s recovery monitored?
VSC has partnered with local area emergency veterinary hospitals in the creation of our five stationary clinics. VSC staff works hand-in-hand with the emergency clinics’ staff to provide 24 hour care for your pet. The emergency hospital doctors and staff monitor our patients through the night so your pet receives constant care. In addition, you can check on your pet anytime through the night with the Patient Info Lines:

What can I expect when I arrive to pick up my pet?
When you pick up your pet at VSC, you will receive detailed post-operative care instructions that we will review with you before you leave. These instructions will be personalized for your pet. In addition to immediate post-operative instructions, some procedures also have rehabilitation regime handouts to help guide you through your pet’s complete recovery. Our technicians will explain the instructions to you in person when you arrive.
My referring vet and I know all about my pet’s problem. Can I just drop my pet off with VSC for surgery?
No. We need to build a client/patient relationship to insure that all of the questions regarding your pet’s case are answered and the surgical procedure, including post-operative care and possible complications, are fully understood. This is necessary as a benefit to you and, even more, to your pet.
What are my payment options for my pet’s treatment?
We accept: cash, check, and major credit cards. We also use “Care Credit”, and "Wells Fargo Health Advantage"; if payment plans are needed. You can learn more at www.carecredit.com & www.wellsfargo.com or speak to one of our receptionists. Payment is due when services are rendered and a deposit will be left if your pet is staying for surgery.
